Syriatel Supports Syrian Zanoubian Rugby team

In the framework of Syriatel sports support program, Syriatel Telecom sponsored and supported Syrian Zanoubian Rugby team to play the finals of Beirut 10th International Rugby Championship where seven teams from various countries fought for the title. Teams came from Jordan, Egypt, Cyprus, and France to play against each other interchangeably for two consecutive days and against the host team Lebanon.
 
The Zanoubian team, sponsored by Syriatel and Shell, succeeded in playing remarkably against other teams including the Lebanese, Jordanian, French and Egypt’s Alexandrian team. It lost against the Cairo club team, the Cyprus team and the Beirut team winner the title.
 
The Syrian team thus made it to the finals and obtained the third place after losing against the French team (expected to win the title) in a superb match where the two teams were at equal strength as the match ended 10-12 to the advantage of the French.

The Zanoubian team, who played very well this kind of sport which has been only recently introduced in Syria, was acclaimed by his fans who filled the stairs of the stadium. He also received applause from the participating teams and the International Rugby Federation. The Board of Directors of the Zanoubian club received congratulations from the Gulf Federation, the representative of the International Rugby Federation. European teams, such as the Cypriot team and the French ones also congratulated the Syrian team. President of the Gulf Federation said that the Syrian club’s performance has greatly improved and he was agreeably surprised by the results.
 
Based on this success, most of the participating team decided to take part in the Damascus tournament to be held in September 2006
 
It is worth reminding that the Zanoubian team played several matches with three Rugby teams in Jordan where he won the Syriatel title
 
This success achieved by the Zanoubian team is the fruit of continuous training effort. The team received full moral and material support from Syriatel which believes in the importance of such a sport including it in its sports support program in an attempt to diffuse it and make it popular in Syria.
