During Cairo ICT 2007, Mobinil is keen to shed light on its future vision and plans for the Egyptian telecommunications industry; for the coming period the company is focusing on two areas. Mobinil’s first goal is to offer state-of-the-art products, services, solutions and applications that meet the specific needs of the Egyptian public, while the company’s second goal is to invest in the network that supports and provides these technologies and services. Mobinil is planning to expand its already strong network through a number of initiatives, including investing in further training and hiring of qualified personnel to work on the network, as well as investing directly into the network by expanding the company’s number of sites, switches, databases and the remainder of Mobinil’s network infrastructure. Through this vision, the company intends to extend its coverage to the remaining 1% of Egypt’s populated areas not yet covered by Mobinil’s network, as well as enhancing the coverage in places already covered by the network.
The company’s network infrastructure has grown dramatically over the last period of time, a precursor to what Mobinil intends to do for the coming future. The number of switches and gateways has increased to 23, a growth of over 27% compared to the year before, and the number of sites has expanded over 28% to reach a total number of 3208 sites as of end of year 2006. Mobinil has also increased its roaming agreements to over 298 operators worldwide.
Visitors to Mobinil’s exhibition area at the fair can enjoy live demos of the company’s latest technologies, where mobile telecommunications technology is blended with the latest multimedia and data streaming. Amongst Mobinil’s many services showcased, visitors can view Mobile TV, a service the company was careful to ensure it meets the needs of the Egyptian public in terms of quality, speed and pricing. Mobile TV provides access to TV channels, including news, music, sports and entertainment channels such as Mehwar, Mazzika and Al Arabiya. Soon Gezira News, Dream Sports, CNN, BBC and children’s cartoon channels will be added.
Commenting on Mobinil’s participation this year, Alex Shalaby, President and CEO of Mobinil stated that “Mobinil is taking part in this year’s Cairo ICT exhibition to showcase our innovative products, services and applications that suit the requirements of the Egyptian market. In our view, the real challenge here is to continue providing excellent quality of service, at a reasonable price with professional customer service.”
