Ooredoo Supports Oman’s Smart Cities Vision at COMEX 2018

Mobilk - Firmly focused on Oman’s path towards digital transformation, Ooredoo is sharing its view on the implementation of Smart City applications, and the responsibility that comes with it, at the Sultanate’s leading IT Telecoms and Technology seminar, COMEX 2018 held at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre from 23 to 25 April. The company is also showcasing the smart home concept that is driven by Ooredoo’s Fast and Superfast Home Broadband. Reinforcing its commitment as the Sultanate’s digital partner of choice, Ooredoo will be the digital partner for the Smart Cities & Industry Summit 4.0 with their Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) & Business Development, Abdulaziz Jaafar as one of the guest speakers.

Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Wahaibi, Chief Business and Wholesale Officer at Ooredoo said, “Digitally empowering the Sultanate’s cities to adapt and thrive in a connected future, has become a key need for our country and Ooredoo will do whatever it takes to turn this opportunity into a reality. We know that the growth of our cities will drive the most significant economic transformation our country will experience and we are going to play an active role to make it happen. We will see a strong culture of innovation that generates new avenues for investment and contributes greatly to a vibrant economy. Ooredoo is keeping pace with the changing technologies to develop smart city solutions that will accelerate the transformation of businesses and governments”.

He added, “We have recently rolled out our Internet-of-Things network that is underpinned by LoRaWAN technology, as a first step into becoming an intelligent city. The LoRa Network ispromoting SMART city solutions ranging from Waste Management, Water & Electricity Management, to governance that will alter the quality of life in an urban environment”.

Laying the foundation of the future, the Smart City & Industry Summit actively explores the possibilities and benefits of building cities on technologies such as AI and IoT to set them on the path of digital transformation and prosperity. Speaking under the subject ‘Our Smart City’, Abdulaziz will address the subject and discuss the challenges and limititations for the development of digital communities. A dedicated Ooredoo stand will showcase the company’s smart city initiatives including the Smart Utility and Energy meters, IoT and a General Products & Services area. 

To prepare Oman for a smart future, Ooredoo has commenced developing and deploying the necessary services and technologies required to power it.  To meet this changing landscape, the company delivers a range of comprehensive state-of-the-art mobile and fixed based corporate services tailored to its consumers. This includes the Sultanate’s cloud-based Services, and its most recent milestone, the roll out of Internet-of-Things (IoT) network using LoRaWAN technology.
