Mobily doubled the capacity of its 3.5G network in Tabuk, Najran and Baha, the company announced on Saturday.

Mobily said it boosted capacity in these areas to cope with runaway demand for Mobily’s superior services, such as Internet usage through the company’s innovative Connect USB modems, national and international video calls and watching satellite TV, among others.

Abdulaziz Altamami, Mobily’s Chief Operating Officer, said that the company is running a concerted, precisely balanced campaign to get all of the Kingdom’s populated areas covered with 3.5G, as well as boosting network capacity in areas already covered.

Altamami added that Mobily’s 3.5G network is now available in some 70% of the Kingdom’s populated areas, with 125 cities, towns, villages and major roads now covered.

Altamami said that Mobily’s concern to build up its 3.5G network corresponds to the company’s many available services that can function only with 3.5G. Also, most future advanced services can only be used through 3.5G networks – hence Mobily’s efforts in that regard. He added that the move embodies Mobily’s desire to keep its clients in touch with the latest and greatest innovations in the telecom world.

Mobily had announced earlier this month that many new areas were added to the company’s 3.5G coverage. Mobily today enjoys the world’s largest broadband Internet subscriber base. Telecom sources say that Mobily controls 85% of the mobile broadband sector in the Kingdom. Mobily’s 3.5G network is one of the busiest in the world, with 18.5 terabytes of data being exchanged every single day.
