  • Nawras volunteers embark on second stage of Goodwill Journey

Mobilk - The second leg of the 10th Nawras Goodwill Journey begins today as the convoy carrying 18 fasting volunteers heads south to Salalah. The Goodwill team will be distributing essential equipment that will help increase opportunities for self-employment and skill improvement within the communities they visit, as part of the company’s commitment to contribute to the long-term prosperity of people in Oman.

True to its theme  ‘Digital and Family’, Nawras customers and avid followers have been able to experience  every moment of the tour this year through live Tweets, Facebook uploads and YouTube videos.

Said Safrar, Nawras Chief Customer Experience Officer, said, “The Nawras Goodwill Journey has already touched the lives of so many people in Oman this year but we are only halfway through and there are a lot more people who will benefit from this year’s voyage of compassion. We are looking forward to the next stage of the tour, as we spread smiles and support community projects in the south of the Sultanate. Continuing the theme of ‘Digital and Family’ we will be providing technology to enable communities and household items to connect people across the length and breadth of the country.”

The convoy’s first stop will be the Women’s Association in Al Amerat following which the Goodwill Journey volunteers will visit the Omani Women’s Association in Sur, the Association for the Welfare of Handicapped Children in Jalan Bani Bu Hassan and Oman Cancer Association in Ibra. The group will then travel 450 kilometres across the desert to reach the Social Development Centre in Haima, before concluding their journey in Salalah with a visit to the Dhofar Orphan Centre. At each destination, the team will distribute much needed household items including air conditioning units, cookers, refrigerators, sewing machines, and electronic goods including laptops and televisions.

Last week, the first leg of the Nawras Goodwill Journey helped change the lives of hundreds of Omanis as it travelled over 1,000 kilometres to visit charitable organisations and branches of the Omani Women’s Association in Seeb, Mussanah, Sohar, Khasab, Buraimi, Ibri and Ad Dakhiliyah.

Many of the Nawras volunteers have said that they have already seen the difference that the Journey has made to the communities already visited. They feel that it is a wonderful experience during Ramadan to be able to provide much-needed equipment to enhance the quality of life for children with disabilities and support educational programmes for Omani families.

Since 2005, fasting volunteers from Nawras, part of the Ooredoo Group, a leading international communications company, have travelled the length and breadth of the Sultanate to try and make a real difference to the daily lives of people in Oman. Over the past decade, the Nawras Goodwill Journey has travelled over 55,000 kilometres and helped nearly 10,000 families in need.

Daily updates from the Nawras Goodwill Journey 10 are available through official Nawras social media platforms.
