Mobilk - Two Omani youngsters embraced the opportunity of a lifetime as they were chosen to meet Ooredoo’s global ambassador and football superstar, Lionel Messi. Nawras, a member of Ooredoo, sponsored Majid Al-Shabli and Mohamed Al Balushi as they travelled to Qatar to join children from the Middle East, North Africa and South East Asia, to celebrate the launch of Ooredoo’s global initiative to support children around the world with mobile health clinics.

Ross Cormack, Nawras CEO, said, “Nawras was thrilled to see the excitement and joy on the faces of Majid and Mohamed as they met football superstar Lionel Messi. As soon as he walked into the room, you could see the smiles light up the children’s faces. Sport can bring people from different backgrounds and different cultures together and help to make a huge difference in the community.”

During the action packed trip, Majid and Mohamed met their football hero, talked to him and took part in a special coaching session along with children from the other countries within the Ooredoo footprint.

Thirteen-year-old Majid said, “Our trip to Qatar was fantastic because we met others who love football as much as I do and we all share a strong passion for the game and its most famous player. It was also interesting for us to have an opportunity to meet children from lots of different countries with similar interests. Football is a competitive sport with so much room for developing talents and career growth. I am so grateful to Nawras and Ooredoo for this fantastic gift of meeting the amazing Lionel Messi.”

Mohamed expressed his delight with the trip by saying, “I would like to thank Nawras for this once in a lifetime opportunity. The entire journey was really fun in every way. I have learned so much from meeting Messi especially with his sense of modesty and humbleness despite his global recognition.”

Ooredoo is committed to enriching the lives of people and has joined forces with the Leo Messi Foundation to support mobile health clinics around the world to provide medical aid for children in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia. Ooredoo and the Leo Messi Foundation are planning to launch a range of initiatives to support social development across the region leveraging the benefits of mobile technology.
