The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA) Board of Directors held their third meeting this year, at TRA’s headquarters in the Seef District.
During the meeting, Board members discussed key issues related to the telecommunications sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain; praising TRA’s outstanding efforts in the development and growth of the telecommunications sector in Bahrain resulting in Bahrain’s ranking of the most prominent ICT indexes in the world according to recent global reports. This reflects the 4th National Telecommunications Plan’s objectives, in particular the objective of Bahrain maintaining the regional and global lead as an advanced ICT hub.
Board members also commended TRA’s endeavors towards maintaining a healthy telecommunications environment for consumers leading to consumers being better off in 2014 compared to 2008 as it is essential for telecommunications regulators in the telecommunications sector around the world to measure consumer surplus for the benefit of consumers and the sector. This has a direct impact on promoting effective competition in this sector and is a step towards achieving Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
On the other hand, the Board discussed the status of telecommunication masts in the kingdom, lauding the significant efforts made by TRA to address the issue of masts through its constant cooperation with the government entities and the operators, which is considered an important subject of consumer’s concerns.
Members of the Board expressed their keen support and satisfaction with the progress of the telecommunications sector in the Kingdom, emphasizing on maintaining such progress and achievements for further developments in the future.
