Oman’s Leading Telecom Company Pledges Support for Cycling Celebration

Muscat: Omantel has announced it is to become the Gold Sponsor of the forthcoming Tour of Oman cycle race that will attract 128 of the world’s best cyclists to the Sultanate from February 14th to 19th. 

A total of 16 of the 20 teams who compete in the world’s most famous cycling event – Tour de France – will be present for the six day Tour that will have stages in the Muscat, Al Batinah, Al Dakhliya and Dhahirah region offering some of the country’s most challenging terrain to the international cycling superstars. 

Omantel has always supported the biggest sporting occasions in Oman and is delighted to have pledged its full support to the six day festival of cycling that is being brought to the Sultanate by the organizers of the Tour de France. 

The latest major sponsorship from the company is a continuation of Omantel’s enduring and long-lasting commitment to being a socially responsible company that is dedicated to supporting events of all kinds that help the development of the country. 

Commenting on their support for the race, Omantel’s Senior Manager for Events and Sponsorship, Hamdan Moosa Al Harasi said: “Omantel is very proud to have given our support to what will be one of the biggest international sporting events ever to have been staged in the Sultanate. As a business we have always supported major sporting occasions of all kinds from the Oman Mobile league, the Omani National Team during the Gulf Cup 2009 in which Oman was victorious and the Oman Equestrian Federation plus a broad range of other sporting activities. 

“The “Tour of Oman”  is a superb way to help launch the celebrations for Oman’s 40th anniversary and will allow regions across the nation to experience and enjoy the excitement and Omantel is very excited to making a major contribution to the success of this event that will help promote the country  internationally,” Al Harasi said. 

He added that the Tour of Oman is an event that will help to bring the nation together and connect people across the nation through a shared love of sport.

Hamed Salim Al Rasbi, the supervisor of “Tour of Oman” marketing at Muscat Municipality , said he was delighted with the major sponsorship deal that Omantel has agreed with the race organizers. 

“The support that Omantel has pledged to the inaugural Tour of Oman will play an important part in its success. Having Oman’s biggest company back the event is a huge vote of confidence in what will be a new and exciting sporting venture for the Sultanate,” Al Rasbi added. 

“We are anticipating tens of thousands of spectators will come out to watch the race as it travels around Oman and many millions more will watch the race on international television providing Omantel with a fantastic showcase for local, regional and international audiences,” explained Mr. Al Rasbi.
