Muscat: Omantel has announced changes to its Hayyak pre-paid service to deliver additional benefits to its customers. The most notable among the changes is the introduction of lower off-peak rates for its hugely popular Hayyak prepaid services from 45 to 39 baisa a minute.
As part of the changes it has also announced the introduction of a new daily off-peak time starting from 8pm in the evening to 6am the following morning. The new rates will also apply to Fridays and to National Holidays.
In the past Hayyak off-peak rates start at 10 pm until 10 am but Omantel has now introduced the lower rates two hours earlier to meet growing customer demand – especially from young people and its expatriate customer base.
The new rate will make Oman’s most popular prepaid service competitive during this time of the day and represents a 13.3% cut in the current off-peak rates.
Customers will be able to benefit immediately from the new and better value pricing structure following the approval of the change by the TRA.
Omantel is introducing the new off-peak rate early in the evening to make it more attractive to use the Hayyak prepaid service from 8 pm to 6 am which is typically the time of day when many individual customers want to make calls.
Announcing the change, Omantel’s Vice President for Consumer Services, Mr. Rao Chagarlamudi, explained that the new tariffs will help to bring communities together and more connected using Hayyak.
He said: “Our new Hayyak prices offer a double benefit to our customers with lower tariffs and a new off-peak time for callers early in the evening that will offer real value during one of the most popular times of day for calls from 8pm to 10pm. This is an effective saving of 29% on what our customers have been paying for calls during this period.
“The new pricing structure and timing are in recognition of the growing demand for our continually popular Hayyak product and will prove beneficial for all customers and particularly for young Omanis and expatriates.”
Mr. Chagarlamudi added that the new pricing structure would make Omantel’s rates competitive, particularly during off-peak hours.
Hayyak was the first prepaid product in the country and this initiative shows the commitment by Omantel to ensuring that its offers provide the best value to its customers.
The announcement of the new rates was made during the press launch of Omantel’s new enhanced visual identity and branding tagline –Together.
“Our decision to lower the tariffs on Hayyak is a clear and tangible signal that we are not only changing our visual identity – but continuing to offer better value all the time to our customers all over the country,” added Mr. Chagarlamudi.
