  • TRA Holds a Session on Future Humans with Emirati Youth

Mobilk - In a bid to empower the Emirati youth with knowledge and know-how in the field of technology and make them future ready, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) recently organized a session titled: "Preparing Future Humans to Lead with Technology".

The session was attended by His Excellency Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, the Director General of the TRA, and a number of Emirati youngsters who were keen to explore the future of telecommunications and the information communications technology (ICT) in wake of the rapid changes that the sector is undergoing.

It was held on the sidelines of the International Telecommunication Unions (ITU) ongoing Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-18), which is running until 16th November at Dubai World Trade Centre.

During the session, H.E. Al Mansoori shared his views on the subject, with the youth in attendance, and discussed a number of core issues like values and ethics of future humans, professional energies, open mindedness and the positon of the UAE as global hub in the field of modern technologies. He mentioned that since its inception, UAE has always been keen to prepare the youth to lead the development of the country in the future.

H. E. added, "My message to youngsters is a message of hope - hope needs confidence in the future, and confidence in the future requires the ability to innovate and look towards the future, creativity and adaptation. Therefore, we need a generation that has the ability to adapt and predict and cope with the challenges. Good leadership always emphasizes upon human capital over material advancements. The younger generation is the hope and their initiatives and innovative contributions will position the UAE and the Arab region on the world ICT map."

"When our wise leaders launched the UAE Vision 2021 and UAE Centennial 2071, they believed that these two goals cannot be achieved unless we have a determined and well-educated force of youngsters, who are capable of dealing with the outcomes of the technological revolution that is disrupting the world," he stated.

Talking about the role of educational institutes in this, H.E. Al Masoori said, "Accordingly, the instructions are clear. We need to train the youth and prepare them for the forthcoming challenges and disruptions. This can be achieved by mobilizing the resources of the country to ultimately reach the target the we have set and by reorienting the infrastructure to empower the young generation. For this reason, the universities, schools, scientific institutions and other organizations have contributed effectively to facilitate the development of education of our youth."

"This discussion and interaction, is in line with the strategies of the government which aim to enable the youth to lead in the future. Through exchange of opinions and ideas with the younger generation, I have felt that their scientific and cultural knowledge is very strong and they have an overwhelming desire to work hard and achieve the set national objectives," he said.

The session brought to the forefront topics pertaining to future humans and the approaches that must be followed to prepare for the post-oil era, which is bound to ignite a radical change in the socio-economic and education sectors.

The meeting also discussed the challenges faced by the youth, in order to prepare them for the transitional stage. The educational approaches and the academic curriculums were reviewed, with a focus on including specializations, including artificial intelligence, big data, e-commerce and new media to meet the needs of the workforce in the coming stage such as the AI.

The participants affirmed their love for the country and their commitment to tolerance by promoting the peaceful co-existence in the UAE. They also referred to the unique diversity that characterized the Emirati society and thereby creates a more effective educational environment in the UAE by enabling the exchange of expertise and experiences, with people from all across the world. It is notable that the session was held at a time when the UAE is witnessing unprecedented success and has emerged as a leader in the field of ICT.

The launch of Khalifa Sat (satellite) under the Mars Exploration programme, the plans for the smart conversations and the artificial intelligence have important role to play in the march towards UAE Vision 2021 and UAE Vision 2071.
