Seagate Unveils New Cloud And Enterprise Solutions To Help Organizations Manage Massive Data Growth

Amongst the releases is a new Cloud Systems and Solutions group (CSS), which will deliver the world’s most scalable, secure, and efficient Cloud service architectures and solutions. 

Data growth today and predicted for the future is astounding. Research firm IDC estimates that the overall amount of data created, replicated, and consumed across the United States alone will hit 44 zettabytes by 2020 , whereas today that number is only 4.4 zettabytes. Along with the new CSS launch, Seagate has also unveiled the company’s eighth-generation enterprise hard drive portfolio and expanded PCIe Flash Accelerator Cards. Seagate is now the first company to deliver hard drives, solid-state hybrid drives, SSDs, external storage solutions, recovery services, cloud services and fully-integrated cloud systems.

Seagate’s CSS product update will include offerings in four focus areas: Integrated High Performance Computing solutions, Scalable, modular components and solutions, Custom systems for OEMs and Cloud Backup/Restore, Disaster Recovery and Rapid Archive Storage solutions. Seagate will drive the industry’s ability to manage hyperscale computing demands, improve energy efficiency, and enhance everywhere availability of data.

Enterprise Hard Disk Drives

Building on the broad Seagate portfolio of existing enterprise drives Seagate unveiled its eighth-generation enterprise hard drive portfolio spanning from high performance-optimized storage with 15K and 10K-rpm drives to the capacity-optimized nearline drive – all in an efficient 2.5-inch form factor.  New drives introduced today include the Seagate Enterprise Capacity HDD— the world’s first 2TB 2.5 enterprise-class nearline drive, Seagate Enterprise Performance 15K HDD with increased drive performance and double the capacity of the last generation, and the Seagate Enterprise Performance 10K HDD Capacity where both capacity and performance meet for maximum mission critical storage efficiency.

All mission critical drives now feature Seagate’s TurboBoost™ enhanced caching technology establishing the benchmark as the world’s fastest hard drives. All enterprise drive families are now integrated with the latest in SAS technology, offering scalable 12Gb/s throughput to and from the host.

PCIe Flash Accelerator Cards

The new Nytro® XP6302 card delivers high PCIe flash capacity with competitive performance characteristics in a half-height form factor. The Nytro XP6302 is designed for optimal density and for graceful performance scaling for high thread count and queue depth workloads. The second expansion to the Nytro portfolio the XP6209 card adds a new 1.86TB capacity point doubling the capacity.  The new 1.86TB SKU addresses customers’ needs for increased capacity density in low-profile and thermally optimized hyper-converged designs.  Read more here.
