Customers with 3G mobile phones can now make international 3G Video Calls from Qatar to over 90 operators in 50 countries around the world.
Following the successful launch of local 3G Video Calling in July 2006, the launch of International 3G Video Calling now allows Qtel 3G mobile customers to make face to face 3G Video Calls to friends, family and clients in many destinations around the world.
Just like local 3G Video Calling, customers making 3G International Video Calls need to have a 3G handset and be within Qtel’s 3G coverage zone which covers greater Doha and city outskirts. Qtel’s 3G International Video Calling service is available for all postpaid and Hala prepaid customers with no activation fees or monthly subscriptions. To set up a 3G International Video Call customers will need to ensure that the party they are trying to call is in a country covered by Qtel’s 3G roaming agreement. Customers also need to check 3G Video Calling availability in the mobile operator they are trying to call. To identify which specific countries are covered, Qtel recommends that customers call Qtel’s customer care service on 111 or pick up a 3G International Video Call brochure from any Qtel service outlet.
“We have launched International 3G Video Calling to give our customers an affordable and exciting way to stay in touch with people overseas. We want to connect people globally, and this new service goes a long way to achieving that,” said Shaikh Fahad Bin Jassim Al Thani, Executive Director, Wireless Services.
To make an international 3G Video Call, Qtel customers will pay their standard peak/off-peak rate, plus whatever international mobile charges applied based on Qtel’s roaming partner network operator. International 3G Video Calling rates for outgoing calls range from QR 1.96 (off-peak) - 2.6 (peak) for calls to GCC and key European countries, and QR 3.9 (off-peak) - 4.6 (peak) to call the UK, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Korea.
International 3G Video Calling is the third exciting service to be delivered over Qtel’s Third Generation (3G) mobile phone network and is not expected to be the last. “We are just seeing the tip of the iceberg with what 3G can do. More video applications will see the light soon. Also, our customers will soon be able to use Qtel’s advanced new 3G network to download entire music tracks, play games, and watch video clips and sports highlights. We look forward to being able to offer more versatile 3G services in the future,” commented Sheikh Fahad.
