A delegation representing QATAR TELECOM (Qtel) headed by H.E. Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohamed Bin Saud Al Thani, Qtel Chairman visited Asiacell in Iraq. The delegation included Sheikh Muhammad Bin Suhaim Al Thani, Deputy Chairman; Mr. Adel Al-Mutawa, Qtel Group Communications Acting Executive Director and Mr. Rick Seney, Wataniya Int’l COO.
The delegation held meetings with Asiacell officials in the Iraqi northern town of Sulaimaniya. The talks focused on ways of enhancing cooperation and explored areas of future investment potential. The two sides also agreed to set date for the board meeting.
“Our visit assures that we care for furthering cooperation and enhancing relations with Asiacell and its officials and also comes in line with our international growth strategy” said H.E. Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohamed Bin Saud Al Thani, Qtel Chairman.
Qtel is a substantial shareholder in the Asiacell consortium that recently won a 15-year mobile license for $1.25 billion in Iraq, in which the mobile penetration rate 37%. Qtel will consolidate the financial results of Asia Cell whose customers total 3.6 million, and employ more than 2000 people. It is the only company that has a network covers the whole Republic of Iraq.
