Qtel hosted the fourth quarterly meet of the GCC Telecom HR Forum held at Doha Sheraton. The forum which focused on ‘Major challenges in reward management/ Employee compensation’ was opened by Qtel’s CEO Dr. Nasser Marafih, and chaired by Mr. Jassim Al Mansoori, Executive Director - Group HR, Qtel.
Dr. Nasser Marafih in his opening speech focused on the importance of having the right people to execute the strategy of the company. “Despite being competitors it is beneficial to share experience and expertise among the telecommunication companies in the region. All regional telcos are expanding internationally and human capital is the key to having a competitive edge. A forum like this definitely adds value,” said Dr Marafih, Chief Executive Officer, Qtel.
The GCC Telecom HR Forum was formed jointly by all GCC telecom companies in 2006. “We are proud that the idea to establish the GCC Telecom HR Forum was formed during Qtel’s prestigious ‘Connecting Leaders Conference’, which took place in September last year. Qtel has been actively working toward creating a very rewarding and engaging work profile for its employees as it moves forward to become the employer of choice in the region. It is a pleasure to share our initiatives and ideas with professionals around the region,” said Mr. Jassim Al Mansoori
This GCC Telecom HR Forum was created to provide a common platform for the HR professionals of the GCC Telecom companies to share information, discuss important HR issues that impact the member organizations and allow members to closely network. The earlier Forum meetings, held quarterly, were organized in Kuwait, Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
Saleh Al-Zamel, Executive VP – HR, Saudi Telecom, thanked Qtel for adding value to the region by initiating this forum. The next meeting will be held in February 2008 in Bahrain and will be hosted by Batelco. As a way forward, the Doha meeting has endorsed the organizations to find out ways and means to leverage the synergies in order to achieve better deals from consultants and vendors.
