Qtel Chairman H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani, a member of the International Telecom Union (ITU) Telecommunication Board, attended the inaugural ceremony of the Telecommunication Conference for Africa 2008 in Cairo, in the presence of a large group of officials led by H.E the Egyptian Prime Minister who inaugurated the conference and the accompanying exhibition.
During the meeting, H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani presented his views on the development of the telecommunication sector, the reason behind holding conferences and exhibitions; and the measures that will ensure the success of the conferences and their contribution to the world.
The review was lauded by the Telecommunications Board and all the ideas mentioned therein were adopted by the Council.
The meeting held in Cairo from May 12 to May 15, 2008, discussed a number of important issues including future plans and projects, a review of the decisions taken in the previous meeting held at Rwanda Capital, Kegali; and the upcoming conferences, their dates and venues.
H.E. Sheikh Abdullah was chosen a member of the Telecommunication Board at the International Telecom Union (ITU) in 2007. The Board was entrusted with the working for the development of the telecommunications sector worldwide, the setting of the plans and the strategies that will ensure the success of the conferences and exhibitions organized by the ITU.
The Telecommunication Conference for Africa 2008 will discuss important issues regarding the development of Telecommunication and Information Technology sector in Africa, and the introduction of investments opportunities in it. A number of specialists in the field of Telecommunications and IT will give presentations during this conference.
