du increases number of destinations for its international video calling service

du, the new telecom operator in the UAE, announced today that it has increased the number of destinations for its international video calling service from 15 June 2007.

This will offer du customers a range of new international destinations for making video calls, where they not only hear but also see people they are calling abroad. du customers will now be able to make video calls to over 25 operators in 13 countries around the world, a number set to increase significantly by the end of this year.

To make international video calls, customers must own a du line and a 3G mobile phone which support video calling. Users will be able to make international video calls if they are in a 3G coverage area, which will be indicated by a 3G icon displayed on their mobile phones. Both the caller and end receiver need to be in a 3G coverage area and have a 3G mobile phone which supports video calling .

All du SIM cards are 3G ready by default and customers only need insert their du SIM cards into their 3G mobile phones to make an international video call. There are no subscription or activation fees or any configuration setup required to make video calls. The service is offered to both Pay as you Go and Monthly Plan customers and as an introductory offer for this service, users will benefit from a flat rate of 7 fils per second.

Explaining how du's services complement each other, Osman Sultan, CEO of du, said: “Continuing with the trend of bringing the maximum number of state-of-the-art services to our customers as possible at launch itself, we are proud to help people connect with their loved ones abroad in a more multi-sensory experience through du international video calling.

Adding to the convenience, international video calls that are not answered can be diverted to the customers’ video mail service which is exclusive only to du customers. With Videomail, the caller will be able to leave a video mail message. Once available, the user may view the video mail message and choose to return the video call.

du customers will soon be able to review the current list of countries and operators to which they can make international video calls by visiting the du website www.du.ae.

“Changing the perception of how we communicate; that is what we are doing at du, by enabling people to keep in touch with their families and loved ones in the most convenient and effective way possible,” concluded Sultan.
