Pleasingly different communications provider Nawras launched its fifth Goodwill Journey yesterday at Al-Amerat. The launch ceremony was held under the kind patronage of H.E. Sayyed Salim bin Musallim Al-Busaidi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Civil Service, Administration Development Affairs, in the presence of Nawras Board Members, Executive Committee Members and employees of the Nawras family. Maintaining an exemplary social corporate responsibility role, Nawras is dedicated to showing support for the Goodwill Journey in order to underline the long-term involvement and commitment felt by everyone in the company.
The launch event began with Nawras CEO, Ross Cormack’s speech, saying, “The Goodwill Journey has maintained its significance for Nawras in its special Ramadan events and once again this year we are deeply committed to caring and making a difference.”
Khalid Al Zadjali, Nawras events and sponsorship manager, followed with a presentation of the journey’s plan and goals. This year’s journey commenced on Sunday 30 August with a starting point at Al-Wafa Centre in Al-Amerat before progressing to Sur and then Masirah.
With its eye-catching, branded vehicles travelling across the Sultanate, the convoy of fasting, volunteer Nawras employees will wind their way towards Dhofar, travelling for at least 700 kilometres to accomplish the first phase of the mission. The second phase is scheduled to start on Saturday 5 September and is planned to pass through the Sultanate’s regions of Batinah, Sharqiah and Dhakilia.
With a theme to share education and entertainment, the towns visited by the Nawras Goodwill Journey 5 will be equipped with home-video theatres featuring wide screens and high definition sound systems, DVD players and specially selected DVDs to help children learn. Nawras will also support the voluntary centres by providing them with e-learning equipment and excellent quality PCs. Nawras is keen to see hundreds of children enjoying extra joy and delight during the Holy Month when they receive gifts of special sweets and toys, making it possible for them to share the happy days of Ramadan with their families.
Since the journey was first introduced in 2005, it has received great support and participation from Nawras Board Members, senior management and employees. Great distances have been covered everyday, with different locations included each year and all this activity is carried out by team members who are fasting from sunrise to sundown. Over the years, the Nawras team is proud to have travelled for more than 24,000 kilometres around Oman and helped thousands of people at 115 social and charity centres. Team members have openly expressed how they have felt humbled and privileged to be spreading happiness and joy in what are very often, quite emotional visits. This key event now has its exceptional place in the company’s social corporate responsibility during the charitable Ramadan season.
