X-Press has recently signed an agreement with Ericsson for the supply of stateof-
the-art PDH microwave transmission equipment for its trunked radio dispatch
network, scheduled to be launched in the Kingdom next April.
According to the agreement, signed by X-Press’s CEO Mr. Suleiman Maani and
Ericsson’s representative in Jordan Mr. Antoine Nahme, Ericsson will be
designing the transmission network in addition to supplying and installing the
microwave transmission equipment.
“This agreement allows for the entry of a new level of telecom technology to the
local market attributed to Ericsson’s capabilities and long standing expertise in
the global telecommunications industry,” said Mr. Maani. He added, “Other
benefits will also be reflected in the transfer of technical know-how to Jordanians
who will be involved in all the phases of the project until completion.”
For his part, Mr. Nahme said, “We are delighted to be partnering with X-Press on
this first of its kind project and we are keen on contributing to the development of
a solid infrastructure for the launch of a unique service.”
X-Press’s trunked radio service is based on iDEN technology, developed by
Motorolla in 1994 and combines the services of ordinary mobile phones (namely
full telephony connectivity, SMS and data transmission), in addition to the pushto-
talk service.
The push-to-talk service enables subscribers to communicate through one-toone
or one-to-many calls within a specific network that covers the whole nation
by pressing a single button, just like the currently used “Walkie-Talkie” systems.
In addition, X-Press service will enable subscribers to communicate with
subscribers of fixed, mobile, or international phone lines as well as benefiting
from roaming through iDEN and GSM networks.
