XPress Launches XGPS in Jordan

􀂙 XPress pioneers GPS in Kingdom
􀂙 First of its kind in Arab World
(Amman, Jordan – August 29, 2005): In keeping with the company's pioneering drive in the Kingdom, XPress Telecommunications has launched XGPS, the XPress Global Positioning System; the first of its kind in the Arab World.
“XGPS serves to increase a significant amount of efficiency to any operation; aiding in the tracking of a fleet or enabling the user to plot efficient routes. In the past heavy weight GPS equipment would have had to be added to the cab of each vehicle of a fleet, but today with XGPS we have found a way to massively reduce the cost of equipment required simply by exploiting the XPress handset.,” explains XPress CEO, Suleiman Maáni.
“Earlier this year, we gave corporate clients the opportunity to test the service and experience, first hand, the benefits of using XGPS,” added Maáni.
XPress introduced Push-to-Talk technology in the Kingdom in 2004 and has since adopted a pioneering strategy with the launch of the Billing Per Second system, a prepaid service of unique offering, and starting September 1st, XGPS; in line with the company’s strategy of providing subscribers with the most innovative and affordable means of communication .
Although GPS tracking is new to Jordan and the Arab world, it has been widely used in different sectors in Europe, the Americas and the Far East for some years.
How XGPS works
XGPS is a web-based application, which enables the users to log-in to the system from the XPress website (xgps.xpress.jo) to check the required location and information about their workforce; be it the address the speed or direction. The Security contained within the system will only allow authorized access.
In order to facilitate the job of subscribers, XPress has added location identifiers to its GPS system. All of Jordan's Governorates, cities and villages, National Roads, city roads and inner roads as well as a detailed map of Amman's sub-districts are included. Specific landmarks also include key Government buildings, monuments, schools, Mosques and Churches, banks, hospitals, museums and castles, Embassies and hotels, among others.
