Oman Mobile to Launch Android Smart Phone at Comex

World’s Fastest Growing Smart Phone Technology Arrives in Oman with Introduction of Huawei U8230 Priced at Just RO 149

Muscat: Oman Mobile has announced it will launch the smart phone with Android operating system at COMEX tomorrow bringing a new era of affordable mobile internet experience to the Sultanate for the first time.

Priced at just RO 149, the Huawei U8230 hand set will be available from Monday 26th April from the Omantel Shopper stand at COMEX and selected Oman Mobile outlets across the Sultanate. In addition to offering an affordable price, every customer purchasing the phone will also get 500 MB of data transfer free per month for 2 months (if using the Hayyak prepaid service) or for 3 months (if using a Mada postpaid line).

Smart phones with Android are already a global phenomenon using an operating system and applications developed by Google allowing users the highest quality internet experience from their hand set.

Commenting on the announcement of the arrival of Android, Saleem Abdullatiff General Manager, Marketing - Consumer Unit at Omantel said: “This is one of the most exciting and innovative products that Oman Mobile has ever introduced to the Omani market and we are excited to be launching our new handset, the Huawei U8230, at the excellent value price of just RO 149.

“We are very proud to introduce the new generation of affordable smart phones that have very advanced and high levels of computing power. These smart phones are unique in bringing together all Google internet based applications into the phone including their widely popular Gmail, YouTube,  Google maps, Google Talk , Android Market where customers can download from up to 50,000 applications.”

He added that mobile smart phones with computing power and access to the internet through wireless broadband are likely to revolutionise the way we communicate, interact and live in the future.

“These handsets will be ideal for the younger, internet and mobile-savvy generation in Oman that have been waiting for a product like this that will fit their mobile lifestyle.

“Oman has one of the most sophisticated young markets for new mobile technology and we are sure now we have introduced the Android technology to the market there will be a huge amount of interest and demand” added Mr. Abdullatiff.

The benefits of the Android operating system for users include having the best mobile internet platform with excellent browser and widget application, a good touch screen and user experience and a rich internet application resource.

Oman Mobile says that the new Huawei U8230 comes with a full range of benefits and applications including 3.5G network capability, Wi-Fi connectivity, a Chrome lite browser, 3.5 inch capacitive touch screen, Google applications, file management systems, Microsoft exchange and Gmail and Arabic inputs and display, icon interface and local Arabic applications.

The new smart phone comes with the ability to be easily customized and with the guarantee of the Open Handset Alliance that comprises over 60 companies including some of the world’s biggest telecom companies and internet companies.

The price of the new phone with free data transfer included also ensures that it has a considerable price advantage over any other smart phone that is currently available within the Sultanate – making it an even more attractive proposition to consumers.

Many telecommunications industry commentators are also predicting that within the next five years the number of smart phones could outstrip laptops worldwide in being the most frequently used way that individuals will hook up to the internet.

The best place to experience what the new smart phone with Android has to offer is to visit the Omantel Shopper exhibition at COMEX 2010 that starts tomorrow Monday 26th April and will be open until Friday 31st April at the International Exhibition Centre.

The launch of the smart phone with Android is the latest in a series of exciting products and services that Omantel has launched since announcing its new enhanced brand identity and “Together” tagline in February and a commitment to consistently delivering an enhanced customer experience.
