Omantel Announces 100 k Mobile Broadband Subscribers

Muscat: Omantel, the Sultanate’s leading integrated telecom services provider announced today it had more than one hundred thousand unique monthly mobile broadband subscribers. This achievement comes few months following the launch of Omantel new enhanced brand.

Oman Mobile, the mobile business arm of Omantel launched its state-of-the-art 3.5G network on March 2009. During these successful fourteen month of operations, hundreds of thousands of customers have benefitted from the widest range of mobile broadband services the company offers.

Omantel broadband offers customers excellent value through a leading range of 3.5G mobile broadband packages that suit the needs of different segments of the market. While the prepaid mobile broadband package "141" has been one of the most successful plans ever launched, other time-based and Gigabyte-based packages have witnessed substantial growth as the company aggressively extends 3.5G coverage to reach new areas of the Sultanate.

Despite being the newest, Omantel has today the widest 3.5G coverage in the Sultanate with approximately 650 base stations providing the service to more than two million Oman Mobile subscribers.

Omantel has been the first company to introduce innovative services to the Omani market such as Mobile TV and multi-player mobile gaming, reinforcing its leadership position in the Sultanate’s mobile telecommunications sector.
