Showing readiness for this year’s Hajj season, Mobily announced on Monday that is has boosted the capacity of its own network in the holy sites by 58% compared to that of last year’s season. The company also added 82 more coverage site in the same areas.
H.E. Dr.Abdulrahman Ahmed Al-Jafary, Governor of Communications & Information Technology Commission (CITC), took a tour on Sunday to inspect Mobily’s locations in the holy sites. Accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, Al-Jafary’s tour was part of his inspections to insure the success of communications during this year’s pilgrimage.
Al-Jafary also visited Mobily’s main switchboard in Muzdalifah. Eng. Khalid Al-Kaf, Chief Executive Officer of Mobily, and Eng. Abdulaziz Altamami, the company’s Chief Chief Operating Officer, received Jafary and briefed him on all of the company’s preparations for this year’s pilgrimage.
They also told him about Mobily’s contingency plans to handle any possible excessive pressure on the telecommunications networks, as well as the mobile relay towers that ensure their mobility within the holy sites.
This year, Mobily participates in its third Hajj season. The company had used new and modern techniques to cover crowded areas that have proven effective in the past two seasons. During the 1427 Hajj season, more than 850,000 pilgrims used Mobily’s network, which is considered the most sophisticated in the Kingdom. Meanwhile, 38 sales outlets and information booths have been set up for the service of this year’s guests, where Mobily’s “Rihal” prepaid package will be sold. Pilgrims will also be shown how to utilize the local network and make use of Mobily’s services. Selling points are found in Makkah and Madinah airports, sea ports, Ihram points and holy sites.
