Mobilk - Abu Dhabi and Islamabad: Etisalat’s Chairman, Mohammad Omran, has been presented with the “Leadership Award for Best Telecom Services” at the annual Teletimes-International Industry Excellence Awards which took place in Pakistan. The award was presented by Pakistan’s Federal Finance Minister, H.E. Dr. Hafiz Shaik.
The award ceremony was organized and managed by Teletimes-International magazine, and recognized various organizations from across the continent that have implemented best practice and set new benchmarks in services, strategy, technology and leadership. The Advisory Council who judged the awards comprised senior leaders from across the industry.
Mohammad Omran has worked for “Etisalat” for over three decades and served in many different positions until he became Chairman in 2005. From his current position he has overseen many of the company’s major achievements and. Omran has led “Etisalat” into new markets through a set of expansions and global investments in Asia and Africa.
Under his leadership “Etisalat” has positioned itself among the best international service operator in the world and achieved a solid financial and operational presence in more than 18 countries. In the last five years “Etisalat” has taken stakes in existing operators in West Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Indonesia whilst building new operations in Afghanistan, Nigeria, India and Saudi Arabia. Its headquarters in the UAE continue to lead the region in its quest to adopt new technologies and drive forward the boundaries of innovation.

Etisalat’s Chairman has received many major international awards for his personal contributions to the company and telecoms sector overall. These include national, regional and international awards with Mohammad Omran most recently being named Best Chairman at the International Business Awards in 2010. Mr. Omran received an Engineering Degree in Electronics and Communications from Cairo University, Egypt, in June 1977.
