  • Huawei Welcomes Qatar Customers and Government Officials at Annual Broadband Road Show

Mobilk - Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, recently played host to over 150 esteemed guests including Qatar Ministry of Interior as well as telecom and enterprise customers during the company’s 2012 annual broadband tour spotlighting the latest end-to-end solutions set to transform the region’s telecommunications landscape.

The road show, which began in Doha in late April, marked the first time that Huawei’s broadband exhibition was actually brought to the doorstep of its customers in Qatar. Held under the banner of “Smarter Network, Better Life”, a combined team of Huawei business directors and technical specialists presented live demonstrations of how broadband is being leveraged through the company’s newest smart devices, enterprise management solutions and 4G/LTE network technologies.

Huawei has recently made public its audited full-year 2011 financial results noting sales revenues of $32.40 billion—an 11.7% growth over the previous year—with net profits of $1.85 billion in line with the company’s revenue expectations.

In Qatar specifically, Huawei has been making significant progress in supporting the government’s vision by providing national broadband network technologies. With a national vision to transform itself into a knowledge-based economy by 2030, Qatar has continued to make significant investments in ramping up its ICT infrastructure. Recognizing the inherent opportunities in faster communications for social and economic development, Qatar is developing a national broadband network, promising speeds of up to 100Mb/s to 95% of households by 2015. Broadband penetration is enabling many individuals within Qatar to access emerging Internet technologies such as video conferencing, video streaming and large file-sharing solutions.

“By continuing to take bold steps to invest in broadband infrastructure, Qatar has positioned itself as a global forerunner in accelerating national connectivity,” noted Mr. Xiao Ning, General Manager of Huawei Qatar. “Working together with our partners, Huawei is committed to sharing the benefits of broadband technologies that can ultimately bring down operator costs while providing a better communication experience to businesses and individuals throughout the country.”

As the number of mobile broadband users in particular continues to climb, Huawei believes that subscribers will increasingly look for low tariffs with unlimited high-speed access, while operators will require network capabilities that allow them to accommodate the expansion pressures for mobile access.

Huawei’s on-site demonstrations offered visitors the chance to experience new Huawei innovations for wireless including HSPA+, LTE FDD & TDD, Wimax and SingleRAN technologies.  Huawei also presented case studies of how its solutions can be optimized to address the needs of operators across the region as traffic is increasingly dominated by services such as IPTV, HDTV and teleconferencing.

On the devices front, several of the company’s latest releases were on display including the world’s slimmest smartphone (the Ascend P1 S), the world’s first 10 inch quad-core tablet (the MediaPad 10 FHD) and the world’s smallest data card (E369). In addition, Huawei also showcased its end-to-end cloud computing solutions including cloud data-center solutions and cloud-based applications such as Business Support Systems (BSS) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).

As part of its broadband strategy, Huawei has become the world’s largest contributor to LTE standards and patents; a pivotal move in the company gaining the lead in global LTE commercialization as the top ranked brand worldwide with more than 50% market share.

The Huawei broadband tour will be continuing its journey across the MENA region over the coming months including dedicated exhibitions in countries such as Oman and Saudi Arabia.
