Asiacell announced its platinum sponsorship of the 6th Iraq Telecoms 2011 Conference held in Istanbul between 25 – 27 October, 2011. The Conference was attended by Iraq’s Minister of Communications, H.E. Mohammed Tawfik Allawi, in addition to 36 speakers and more than 300 senior telecom industry experts and Iraqi telecom sector enthusiasts from around the world.
The 6th Iraq Telecoms 2011 Conference is a comprehensive event that provides the ideal platform for companies and individuals to come together to explore and discuss the major issues facing the Iraqi telecommunications sector and create strategies to overcome these impediments.
During the Conference, Dr. Diar Ahmed, CEO of Asiacell, spoke about the key role the Conference plays in highlighting potential investment opportunities within the Iraqi economy. He also discussed the challenges and obstacles currently facing the telecommunications sector such as the intermittence of Internet broadband services, low Internet penetration rates in general and weak fiber-optic infrastructure in particular, in addition to mobile Internet services.
Dr. Ahmed lauded efforts aimed at advancing the Iraqi telecom sector, and shed light on Asiacell’s initiatives that work towards raising the sector’s standards. He also highlighted Asiacell’s various corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and activities that the Company regularly holds to support the local community.
